Wind
Nova Scotia has a tremendous wind resource. With some of the highest average wind speeds in Canada, a wind turbine placed in Nova Scotia can generate a lot of power.
By 2013, nearly 20 per cent of all Nova Scotia's electricity will come from green sources like wind through the renewable energy standard. That's equivalent to 100,000 more homes running on renewable energy.
Wind energy offers many advantages - it is emission-free, renewable, domestic, and relatively affordable. That explains why it is the fastest growing energy source in the world.
Wind also presents some challenges - particularly because it is a variable source. Some challenges can be addressed through careful planning.
Some challenges require further research - to enable greater use of our wind resources.
