Welcome to Energy for Students

Energy for Students (EFS) was presented to Nova Scotia teachers over eight years ago with a focus on helping educators better understand the province’s energy sectors, how they contribute to the economy, the local benefits, career opportunities and how to access energy related information for the classroom.

The program has been co-initiated by the Energy Educators Group consisting of a variety of educational interests including NSTU teachers, Association of Science Teachers, Association of Geography Teachers, Association of Social Studies Teachers, CollegePrep/NSCC, government and a variety of industry representatives. Founding partners were Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline and Encana along with sponsors Canadian Centre for Energy, ExxonMobile, Secunda Marine and Heritage Gas.

The EFS has delivered presentations to over 1,700 teachers and students across the province in key energy related areas such as Guysborough, Amherst, Halifax, Dartmouth, Pictou, Truro, Annapolis Valley, The Strait Area, Cape Breton and the South Shore Region.

Energy for Students recognizes the importance of educating Nova Scotia’s teachers, students and communities on the economic benefits and career opportunities of the energy industry. The impact this program has is best summarized by the comments made from teachers who attended the EFS’ Professional Development Day last year and said they would “recommend other teachers attend future Energy for Students workshops”.

This is the eighth year of presenting Energy for Students (EFS) to Nova Scotia teachers and students and we are looking forward to implementing several new initiatives. Teachers have requested more presentations in schools, access to a Nova Scotia (oil and gas) energy information based web site, links to energy partners and information sites and more collateralinformation for classrooms and class projects like “benefits of using natural gas”.
