Course Presentation
Energy for Students presentations are continually being updated to offer current information including the local benefits, career opportunities, resource information, and contact information for the following energy sectors: offshore & onshore oil & gas exploration, development, pipelines, natural gas distribution, residential & commercial uses of natural gas, electric generation, wind power, and other renewable energies.
The EFS is presented to teachers and students in either a full day or a mini-series format. The full day sessions are typically presented at Professional Development Days for teachers and are fast paced with an opportunity for teacher interaction during each presentation. The first presentation provides an overview of the industry and its sectors. Then, the Industry Breakout session invites representatives from industry such as exploration project managers, LDC technicians, wind developers, supply boat crew, helicopter pilots, rig workers, engineers, skilled labourers, wind producers, solar power installers, renewable energy representatives, etc. to talk about their careers and life experiences in the energy industry, voted as “a don’t miss session”. Lunch is provided with an afternoon Tour of an energy related site- these have included a tour of a jack-up rig, helicopter survival training, offshore supply vessel, shipyard, wind turbine, and an office complex using renewable energy products.
The following is a typical agenda for an EFS full day session:
8:30 - 9:00 Coffee & Registration
9:00 - 10:15 Energy Presentation
10:15 - 10:30 Refreshment Break
10:30 - 12:00 Industry Breakout session
12:00 - 12:30 Luncheon with Guest Speaker
12:30 - 12:45 Prize Draws for participants
12:45 - 3:00 Hands-On Tour with Refreshment Break
The Mini-series is offered to groups looking for a brief overview or summation of what’s offered in the full day EFS. The mini-series format can be tailored to meet the group’s individual needs and time constraints. Special industry guests will also be invited to present to these educators and students on a variety of related topics.
